Overview
Topical adhesives, which are cyanoacrylate-based glues, are used to approximate the edges of clean wounds. Aside from providing rapid closure, topical adhesives provide a barrier against microbes that reduce the chance of infection. Occasionally, topical adhesives are used in conjunction with sutures, as a means of augmenting wound strength and improving cosmesis. These adhesives are adaptable and can be used for small, medium, and large cases (with supportive mesh) and have been used as a surgical adjunct for minimally invasive surgery as well as open surgery. Topical adhesives play a role in shortening recovery time and improving patient comfort in a variety of surgical fields such as orthopedics, pediatrics, cosmetic surgery, trauma and several more.

Increased surgeon adoption is driving incremental growth
Adoption of topical adhesives has been steady as these products have been in the market for more than 20 years. Topical adhesives offer key benefits to surgeons & hospitals, like faster application times compared to sutures (15-20 sec compared to 2-4 minutes); offer microbial barrier to protect the wound and reduce infection risks; and ease of use with modern applicator devices which ensure uniform application. Moreover, younger surgeons are more open to new techniques in wound closure, sometimes letting the nurses to close the wound & moving to the next surgery. Adoption is expected to grow steadily in future considering the higher cost (these are typically adjunct to sutures) balanced by benefits.

Rise in ambulatory surgical centers (ASC) and outpatient care to drive market growth
The ASC sector is expanding as more procedures shift from hospitals, driven by patient preference for lower costs, flexible scheduling, and personalized care. Moreover, payers are also encouraging the shift of procedures to ASCs due to cost benefit. Additionally urgent care services are increasingly being delivered through ASCs and pharmacies, as part of a broader shift toward convenient, accessible, and cost-effective healthcare. Moreover, PE investments in the US urgent care sector have grown and covered about 18% of the nation-s 14,423 urgent care centers as of mid-2025 (Source: Journal of Urgent Care Medicine). This growth in ASCs & urgent care is driving wider adoption of adhesives as these settings prioritize quick recovery & minimal complications.
